Position Overview:
As a Youth Lead, you'll play a crucial role in shaping the future of K-12 students by supporting their academic and career success, wellness, and social-emotional learning (SEL). If you're passionate about youth development and eager to make a real difference, this role is for you.
What You’ll Do:
- Inspire and Engage: Create a safe, dynamic, and inclusive learning environment that fosters student growth and development.
- Academic & Career Support: Develop and implement personalized Academic & Career Plans (ACPs) that cater to each student's unique needs and aspirations.
- Program Leadership: Facilitate before- and after-school programs that include engaging instruction, enrichment activities, and academic interventions designed to promote subject mastery and SEL skills.
- Collaboration & Partnerships: Work closely with campus clubs and organizations to recruit students and build partnerships that enhance program offerings.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including forms, assessments, attendance, and more.
- Family Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents to ensure the program meets the needs of both students and their families.
- Professional Representation: Serve as an ambassador for Youth Action Project in all interactions with school partners and community liaisons.
What We’re Looking For:
- Tech Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other cloud-based tools.
- Strong Communicator: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a customer service mindset.
- Organized & Detail-Oriented: Strong time-management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Independent & Collaborative: Able to work both independently and as part of a team, exercising sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Reliable & Ready: Must have access to reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and automobile insurance. Comfortable leading activities that may involve extended periods of standing, walking, or outdoor exposure.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Must be 21 years of age or older and provide proof of a High School diploma or G.E.D. Required.
- Additionally, 48 college semester units or 60 college quarter units are required, and/or passing an Instructional Aide Test.
- A bachelor’s degree in education or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Experience in a school or youth-support setting, with at least 2 years in a leadership role, is required.
- Background in English Language Arts, math, behavior management, after-school programming, or social work is a plus.
- Adaptability: Proven ability to thrive in dynamic environments, manage projects, delegate tasks, and achieve goals despite challenges.
- Relational Skills: Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships through collaboration. Openness, responsiveness, and understanding are key.
- Conflict Resolution: Skilled at addressing and resolving team conflicts with tact and professionalism.
- Calm Under Pressure: Ability to remain composed and focused in high-pressure situations.
Requirements:
- Flexible Hours: Ability to work flexible hours to meet deadlines and program needs.
- Communication: Strong communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and stakeholders. Must be able to convey accurate information professionally.
- Transportation: Reliable transportation, a valid California Driver's License, and a good driving record are required.
- Must maintain state-mandated personal automobile insurance.
- Tech Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and project management software.
- Program Hours: You must be available to work during program hours (the shift varies: 11:00 am-4:00 pm or 1:00 pm-6:00 pm Monday through Friday). Additional hours for training may be required.
- Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications are required within 30 days of hire. Must pass a TB test and background check upon hiring.
- Bilingual: Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
